A North Yorkshire schoolgirl's sporting knowledge has won her a special prize in a national competition. Lucy Bloomfield of West Heslerton Church of England voluntary controlled primary school answered a series of questions about key sporting events in a national competition on the My School Lunch website.

Keen young gamers are being given the chance to join a three-day Playstation football tournament at Knaresborough library in August. The event, which takes place between August 18th and 20th, is just one of many sporty activities to tie in with the Beijing Olympics, planned by North Yorkshire's libraries as part of the National Year of Reading campaign.

Primary school pupils in North Yorkshire are able to learn all about teenage diving star Tom Daley with a new website that has gone live this week. The website, run by North Yorkshire County Caterers which supplies the majority of the county's schools with lunches, aims to educate children and parents about school meals and healthy eating and includes information on diving, swimming and gymnastics and has video clips and bi-monthly blogs.
