Sporting Heroes - West Yorkshire Archive Service
Culture
Sporting Heroes is an ongoing three-year project by the West Yorkshire Archive Service that aims to collect memories from sports fans and players both past and present. The project will culminate in the launch of a sporting archive and exhibition in collaboration with Leeds Museums and Galleries.
Working closely with the rich and varied sporting communities of West Yorkshire, Sporting Heroes will create oral history records for future generations to enjoy. The project will concentrate on the most prominent sports in the area; cricket, rugby league, rugby union and football.
Sporting Heroes will demonstrate the diversity of West Yorkshire’s sporting culture and will create collaborations between communities and cultural organisations around the common theme of sport. Sporting Heroes will also work with schools to inspire children and young people and to promote the sporting values of determination, respect, excellence and friendship.
