Arches Partnership Games 2010

Sport

The 7th annual Arches Partnership Games took place on the 27th May 2010 at the English Institute for Sport, Sheffield. 1400 primary school children took part across a wide variety of sports and physical activities. This year’s event was bigger and better than ever before and included a special visit from Jonathan Edwards who was on hand to offer useful training tips and present the Inspire mark!

Jonathan coached youngsters taking part in the triple jump and encouraged them to see how they measured up against his record-breaking jump! He also met women boxers training for 2012 when the sport makes its debut at London 2012, and watched youngsters coached by the GB Volleyball and Judo squads.

Finally Jonathan was there to enjoy the closing ceremony and closed proceeding with a few inspirational words and then presented the Inspire mark to Kristie Richards, Partnership Development Manager of Sheffield City Council's The Arches School Sport Partnership.

The Games are organised by the Partnership, which works with 51 schools and 18,500 young people to develop lifelong sporting opportunities. The Games are the seventh to be held in the city and involved over 200 volunteers from Sheffield Hallam University and the Sheffield Academy of Young Leaders in Sport.
