Care Home Games, East Riding

Sport

In the spirit of London 2012, the Care Home Games will bring together residents and staff from 6 Residential Homes to compete in events such as Bowls, Boccia, New Age Curling and Dominoes. The primary ambition of the project is to promote physical activity among older people living in care homes, as they practice and prepare for the event.

Care Home Games, Sheffield

Sport

Teams of older people and their carers competed in the Sheffield Care Home Games 2010 at Don Valley Stadium on Friday 23rd July. The event, organised by Activity Sheffield and Sheffield Primary Care Trust’s Care Home Support Team, was part of Sheffield City Council’s Open Weekend celebrations, marking the run-up to the London 2012 Olympics.

Sporting Words

Carnegie Sporting Words Festival 2008

Culture

The first Carnegie Sporting Words Festival took place in Harrogate and Leeds in October 2008 and is now an annual event building to 2012. This project brings literacy and sport together and promotes reading, writing and the use of language in all its media forms.

Coach Education Programme

Volunteering

The Coach Education Programme has been running for 2 years and last year’s programme included over 120 courses and enabled over 1000 people. Services 2 Sport has been Inspired by London 2012 to aim higher and develop a bigger and better programme that strives to increase the quality of coaching across the UK.   In partnership with the Coalfields Regeneration Trust the Coach Education programme will be rolled out nationally to the English Coalfields.
