You are here: Yorkshire Gold > Culture

From film-makers to conceptual artists to stand-up comedians, Yorkshire and Humber is chock full of cultural life. Which is good news because, in the run up to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, we’ll be helping serve up double portions of the stuff to satisfy the cultural appetites of both visitors and our diverse and demanding people.

A Carnival of Culture

What’s on the menu? For a start there’s our contribution to London 2012’s Cultural Olympiad. All the UK’s nations and regions are taking part and we’ll make sure that our world-class cultural community give our offerings a distinctly Yorkshire flavour.

Then there’s our very own Carnival of Culture. This unique event is part of our Four Year Cultural Programme that delights and harnesses the creative energy of our people with a series of events and activities that will welcome the world and give them a very real feel of the culture of Yorkshire.

The Carnival of Culture will involve everything and everyone. Our museums, our dance companies, our battlefields and anything else that our rich cultural heritage has to offer. Above all, by making culture accessible, relevant and enormous fun it will involve our young people and in doing so leave an outstanding cultural legacy.

We’re living through exciting times. So let’s participate, celebrate and dig in to the cultural feast.

Cultural Olympiad Yorkshire is the website dedicated to Yorkshire's contribution to the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad programme. It features activities involved through our Inspire Programme and a series of Major Projects driven by our signature programme imove.
